Get a Double Buzz at Amor y Amargo |
The only downsides to the Double Buzz are from a drinker’s perspective. However tempting, it is unwise to get hooked on a drink made with a bean that won’t be on the menu in a month. You can’t bring a visiting friend back, six months from now and buy a round of that great cocktail you described two seasons back. If a friend sends you a message, showing a great cocktail, one Sunday afternoon, then that drink might be gone by the next Saturday.
On the flip sides: new tastes; new experiences; an introduction to new regions of coffee and untried amari, bragging rights (if that’s one of your pleasures) about having had an Amor y Amargo cocktail that isn’t around any more, and the delicious anticipation of walking across Sixth Street, knowing that something excellent and unexpected is in store.
With Witt busy elsewhere (details below), the current beans are lingering past their usual monthly span. That gives you a leeway to try the current offerings, which feature Ethiopian Yirgacheffe and Costa Rican La Montana coffees, both from Ceremony Coffee in Indianapolis. The cocktails Len Wein and Morning Stubble make the most of La Montana; 8 Amaro Correto, Avian Accomplice and Purple Rain have Yirgacheffe in a starring role. Spirits, bitters, orange citrate and amari turn coffee into cocktails that are complex, bright and worthy of conversation or contemplation, depending on whether the caffeine has kicked in.
