Drink Astoria: Exploring Astoria's Best Bars with Emily Ross-Johnson of the Astoria Whiskey Society |
Open daily from 11:30 AM until 4 AM, Sunswick 35/35 brightens life in Astoria with events, contests, giveaways and excellent ales. Sunswick “has a huge beer selection. I don’t know how many taps they have.” (They have 24 taps if you’re curious.) Ross-Johnson describes it as an excellent place to hit before going to the nearby movie theater, or just to sit and enjoy an evening. “They always have the game on – whatever game that might be, or games.” They also have an annual Oktoberfest, which includes German brews and foods. Mark that in your 2015 calendar, so you remember to visit it next year.
Even on a regular day, though, Sunswick merits a visit. “They pride themselves on having a diverse selection [of brews]. Most of it is craft-produced. They have lot of things that are seasonal.” Sunswick caters to all beery tastes. “If you’re primarily a dark beer drinker, they’re going to have a stout, a porter or two, a black IPA. If you’re a light beer drinker, they’ll have session ales or Belgians.” If you don’t know what you like, “all you have to do is talk to the people behind the bar.” You’ll get guidance, sips, and direction, and you’ll leave Sunswick a wiser and happier beer-drinker than you were before.
