Drink Astoria: Exploring Astoria's Best Bars with Emily Ross-Johnson of the Astoria Whiskey Society |
“One of the things that people come to Astoria for is brunch,” Ross-Johnson says. Spare the whiskey expert any stream of mediocre mimosas and Bloody Marys. “When I go to brunch in Astoria,” she says, “I always have in mind the places that I’m going to be able to get a good brunch cocktail. One of the “great places in Astoria” is Sweet Afton, which has good food and beautiful cocktails. It’s been around for a while, “a cute little place that gets a little busy on weekends and weekend evenings.” It isn’t just the drinks that make Sweet Afton worth the train fare. “They do a fantastic burger, great French fries, and a pretty bad-ass bourbon Bloody Mary that I highly recommend.” The food and brunch menus change seasonally, but the bourbon Bloody Mary is always an ask away. Eat, drink and be brunchy.
