Uncouth Vermouth Brings Hyperlocal Production to Red Hook |
Uncouth Vermouth will run around $34 to $40 for a 500 ml bottle. Once it’s open, store it in the refrigerator, as you would any other vermouth. While a bottle is sealed, you can age it as you would wine, in a cool dark room.
You don’t need to go to Red Hook to have Uncouth Vermouth though. You can try it in a few restaurants and bars such as Rouge Tomate, Amor Y Amargo and the Experimental Cocktail Club. You can also buy it online. And it’s available a handful of local stores, including Astor Wines, 67 Wines and Spirits, Fermented Grapes, and Henry’s Wine & Spirits. “Available” does not mean forever. These are small-batch vermouths. If you see two bottles on a shelf at Astor Wines and Spirits, and you want one, then buy it. Those may be the last two bottles of that batch of apple mint vermouth – not just in Astor, but in the city – and that blend will never appear again.
If you do go to Uncouth Vermouth, then end your journey where many Uncouth Vermouths begin. Take a stroll to The Red Hook Winery. Settle into the warmth of wood paneling and wooden barrels. Taste wines, gaze through the glass storefront, contemplate grapes and vermouths, and watch the river flow.
