A Vine Grows in Brooklyn |
McCormack’s background is in wine, but the winery’s co-founders have a different history. Jonathan Stires and Brian Leventhal, were colleagues in a tech firm. Their path to winery-owners is paved with happenstance. Together with coworkers, they made wine in New Jersey. It was fun…. There was space for wine in Brooklyn…. They were entrepreneurs…. And a winery was born.
McCormack, who was working in Northern California’s wine industry, spotted a job listing on WineJobs.com. In March 2010, he switched coasts, and the Brooklyn Winery began to take shape. That May, they signed the lease, and took over what had been a blacked-out old nightclub and started the process of redoing the space from floor to ceiling to wiring.
