Few sporting events can generate the same amount of excitement that buzzes around the globe every four years in the run-up to World Cup Soccer, or FIFA World Cup as the rest of the world calls it. Just the same, few sports can parlay that sense of exhilaration from the field to TV, which makes watching World Cup matches at a bar equally as fun as in person. This year, the tournament kicks off on Thurs., June 12 and run through Sun., July 13. Here we’ve broken down the city's best bars for watching the games by neighborhood locations. Brooklyn

Banter will be airing every game on two huge HD projectors and three plasma TVs. They will be serving up $4 beers and caipirinhas, with scarf and jersey raffles and giveaways for all those in attendance.

The Black Swan (1048 Bedford Ave. 718-783-4744)
Another English soccer pub makes an appearance here with The Black Swan. This is the spot for weekend day drinking, with their happy hour starting at 10 AM on Saturdays and Sundays.

The Montrose BK (47 5th Ave.; 347-763-0010)
Anyone who follows the Barclay’s Premier League could assume that a bar neighboring the Barclay’s Center would be a solid choice for World Cup drinking. They have more beers than there are teams in the tournaments, so feel free to mix it up during each game.

Woodwork (583 Vanderbilt Ave.; 718-857-5777)
Stop into Woodwork to snag a Fuckit Bucket—all six of their $3 beers for the price of five. It doesn’t hurt that The New York Times called it one of the best spots to catch all the action, either.

Park Slope

Black Horse Pub (568 5th Ave.; 718-788-1975)
Although this is a sports bar, soccer always reigns supreme on the large TVs scattered around the bar. If you’re trying to watch the U.S. side take on the Group of Death in a crowd of patriots, this is a great option.

Greenwood Park (555 7th Ave.)
In a city that can feel pretty cramped sometimes, Greenwood Park is a breath of fresh air. Literally. The wide space of this indoor/outdoor bar is only matched by its 60 tap lines, making it a great place to drink up and cheer on your teams.

Lowlands Bar (543 3rd Ave.; 347-463-9458)
Lowlands will be airing every game during the World Cup, but this will be a German-dominated venue. When the German side takes the pitch, Germans in the city will be drinking beer for free.

Calling all limeys. This bar is the perfect spot to watch Joe Hart and the Three Lions take on the world while washing down your fish and chips with a Monty Python Holy Ale.

Williamsburg

Right at the foot of the Williamsburg Bridge, East River is a good place to catch the Brundesliga (German) games. They even let you barbeque your own meat (BYOM) in the backyard if you ask politely.

Every World Cup squad has been painstakingly put together, some controversially, but Bar 43 has put together something great for you. With their 13 TVs, 32 taps, and table tappers that allow you to pour your own beer, you are set to make your own plays on the pitch and find success in the 2014 World Cup.

Midtown

One of New York’s best soccer spots is going all out for the World Cup. They have country-specific drink specials including $5 Sam Adams for the U.S. matches and $5 Estrella Damm specials for the Spain squad.

New York’s home for the Tottenham Hotspurs is an obvious choice for watching the World Cup. They have two floors (each with a bar), many bathrooms, and although it’s no White Heart Lane, this is a true soccer fan’s bar.

This aptly named bar makes it impossible to not have a view of the game with their 14 HDTVs. With 30 beers on tap and surprising prices, this spot is definitely worth catching at least one of the games.
