Best Bars For Wings in New York City
The Super Bowl can mean a lot of things: bad traffic, cute commercials, celebrity spotting, oh, and there's that whole sports thing, too. But whether you're more culinarily-inclined than athletically, here are where to get your wings for the big day—who doesn't like a celebration?
Pok Pok: Okay, so getting to the wings at this always-packed Asian joint is part of the difficulty but the for the Vietnamese-style chicken with sweet glaze of the heavens (complete with caramelized garlic), some would say, it's worth it. (117 Columbia St., Brooklyn, 718-923-9322)
Old Town Bar: There's something to be said about a classic: No clever name, simple chairs, Frank's hot sauce. The 120-year-old bar does classic wings with blue cheese right (and it ain't shabby to look at either). (45 East 18th St.; 212-529-6732)
Dinosaur Bar-B-Q: There's a lot more than ribs at this Harlem spot: live music usually of the honky tonk variety, barbecue and yes, the crowds that flock to those things. But the wings which come in four flavors are worth a trip alone. There's a Brooklyn location as well. (700 W 125th St., 212-694-1777)
Blondies Sports:
For sports fan, Blondies is the whole package. There are over 50 TV screens, plenty of beer and even a Monday night all-you-can-eat wing special for $16.95. Those are good—they're also available by 10s, 20s, 50s and 100s throughout the week. (212 W 79th St., 212-362-3311)
BonChon: Before Vietnamese chicken hit the streets of Brooklyn, there was Korean wings. BonChon's take (available in New York as well as New Jersey, Virginia, California, Texas and a few other states because it's a chain) is light and the skins crisp within a garlic-soy sauce. (207 W 38th St., 212-221-3339)
Croxley Ales: And if beer is more your thing, this Alphabet City spot has over 30 beers on tap as well as plenty more in bottles. And the wings? Cheap and delicious. (28 Ave B., 212-253-6140)
Super Wings NY: Forget about skimpy wings, this Caribbean spot in Brooklyn offers full-on flavor and meat. The Ginger Buff flavor is a crowd-pleaser but there are ten others to choose from too. (1218 Union St., Brooklyn, 718-467-8737)
