These NYC Bars are Open on Christmas Day

Can’t go home for the holidays? Perhaps the family is a bit overwhelming? Sticking around New York City can be great during the holidays, and you can still celebrate in style. We’re rounding up all the bars you and your friends can meet up at that are open Christmas Day.

Bemelman’s Bar
This famous lounge and bar within the Carlyle Hotel is frequented by socialites, politicians, and other figures considered “rich and powerful” - but don’t let that scare you off. Bemelmans Bar is a place for everyone who desires to keep it classy on Christmas. (35 E 76th St.; 212-744-1600)

Leave Rochelle Out of It
There’s something about whiskey on Christmas, and if you’re spending Christmas in New York City, you’re in luck. Commonly referred to as just Rochelle’s, this Lower East Side hang out has over 120 whiskeys available, not to mention their signature whiskey cocktails that are perfect to drink alone under the mistletoe. No matter what your plans are for the holiday, Rochelle’s is open late night and determined to put you in the Christmas spirit. (205 Chrystie St.; 212-673-2400)

Seamstress
Fashionably fashioned in leather and celebrating all thing Americana, Seamstress in the Upper East Side has you covered for Christmas. Put yourself somewhere warm and cozy and cuddle up to classic cocktails, American fare, and some festive atmosphere, perhaps you too can have sugar plum fairies dance in your head. Winter Garden at The Standard East Village
The Standard Hotels always have something extra going on, and the Christmas holiday is certainly no exception. Over at their East Village location, they’ve embraced the winter season with a heated back garden area equipped with furnished tents adorned with holiday cheer. Comfort is guaranteed and just to ensure it, the special seasonal cocktails will seal the deal for any grinch or scrooge. (25 Cooper Sq.,; 212-475-5700)

Nitehawk Cinema
Love Christmas movies? Love Christmas and movies? All these things are available at Nitehawk Cinema in Williamsburg, where you can leave any holiday stress at the door to properly movie theater and chill. Union Hall
Over in Park Slope, what used to be a massive warehouse is now a two-floor bar and lounge perfect to get comfortable in whenever you decide to pop in on Christmas day. Fully equipped with all the necessities of comfort - fireplace, bocce ball, booze, and even a respectable library - Union Hall is maybe one of the better Christmas gifts you’ll get this year. Pop into Union Hall on the 25th, where you can most likely read some Charles Dickens over a pint and call it Christmas. (702 Union St., Brooklyn; 718-638-4400)
