Where to Toast to Repeal Day 2017 in New York City
The Second Annual Repeal Day Party
Dress dapper and head over to the Hotel Chantelle in the Lower East Side this Tuesday December 5 for a proper Repeal Day bash. Sponsored by Beam Suntory, F.E.W. Spirits, St. Germain, and Barrows Intense, this party certainly captures what Repeal Day is all about. Tickets are only $20 and it is advised to download the app HOOCH to get in on special deals and giveaways from various vendors. (92 Ludlow St.; 212-254-9100)
Bathtub Gin
The very term ‘bathtub gin’ is derived from a time in our history when booze was illegal and those looking to let loose had to, well, make gin in their bathtubs. Lucky we don’t have to nowadays, but Bathtub Gin in Chelsea gives a nod to the past and delivers a “speakeasy” experience fully equipped with period dressed classic cocktail slingers and cabaret performances. (132 9th Ave.; 646-559-1671)
Attaboy
Attaboy, on the Lower East Side, is owned by the team behind Milk & Honey, Sam Ross and Michael McIlroy. One of the best reasons to visit Attaboy on Repeal Day is that there’s no menu — simply tell the very competent bartender how you’re feeling and they’ll whip up the perfect remedy - which is what booze is really all about. (134 Eldridge St. 855-877-9900)
Angel’s Share
Renowned not-so-secret-speakeasy Angel’s Share, inside Yokocho in the East Village, has been turning out industry standard setting cocktails for more than twenty years. Classic and refined, Angel’s Share is the place to spend Repeal Day celebrating the old school cocktails and the new school twists. Their standard martini comes highly recommended, but also be sure to head over to the adjacent annex and try the leather-aged boulevardier poured tableside from a leather satchel. (8 Stuyvesant St.; 212-777-5415)
Suffolk Arms
Located in the Lower East Side and headed by the one and only Giuseppe González, Suffolk Arms is a tribute to New York City and its cocktail culture. On Repeal Day, Suffolk Arms is the place to immerse yourself in this city’s rich history over no nonsense cocktails delivered to you with perfection, precision, and simple sense. (269 E Houston St.; 929-274-2380)
Dear Irving
This semi-secret spot tucked away in Union Square is essentially a time capsule that will bring back to the stylish Victorian Era. At Dear Irving, expect the refined dignity of cocktail classics made the way they should be. (55 Irving Plc.)
