Here's Where You'll Be Drinking in New York City This Fall
New York City is a big place, and what better way to fill that space than with a constant rotation of new ideas, new tricks, and new perspectives? Of course, we’re talking about new bars coming to you this fall in the Big Apple. Because the landscape of the service industry is always changing, finding that new cool spot you can call home away from home can be tedious and even a bit daunting — so we’ve rounded up the spots for you to check out.
The Aviary
The long awaited cocktail bar coming from Alinea’s chef, Grant Achatz, is finally upon us opening its doors this September. Featuring highly creative dishes and cocktails anyone familiar with Alinea and the Chef behind it will know that The Aviary will be a must try experience. With a lavish, spacious and ‘spacy’ decor The Aviary will transplant you to a futuristic place where everything you knew about cocktails and cuisine will change. (The Mandarin Oriental; 80 Columbus Circle at 60th St.)
From the same team that brought us Lillie’s and Papillion, Oscar Wilde may be their most adventurous project yet. This Oscar Wilde themed bar has the feel of a communal meeting house, and it’s a perfect a place for conversation with friends over a couple of pints. Besides the quaint and comfortable late 19th century decor, Oscar Wilde also now lays claim to the longest continuous bar in New York City — at 118.5 feet long, you are welcome to bring as many friends as you like. (45 W 27th St.; 212-213-3066)
Mood Ring
Should we really be that surprised that an astrology themed bar is opening up in Bushwick? No. Should we be totally stoked for it? Absolutely. Owners Bowen Goh and Vanessa Li pay homage to not only the stars, but their Chinese American heritage, bringing forth a space foretold in the heavens and inspired by classic Chinese filmmaker Wong Kar-wai (In The Mood for Love). So far, the plan is to open in September 2017 and feature a constant rotating cocktail list inspired by the zodiac and its signs. If wonderfully witchy is your thing, get psyched for Mood Ring. (1260 Myrtle Ave., Brooklyn; 917-818-1738)
Magic Hour
Brought to you by The Tao Group, the Magic Hour will open it’s doors in September 2017 to what is sure to be a warm reception. The Magic Hour will also be home to to the largest indoor/ outdoor rooftop lounge in New York City, sitting atop the Moxy Hotel. This 10,000 foot year round space will play host to inspired cocktails, a great view, breakfast served all day, and even a mini golf course. (The Moxy Hotel Times Square, 485 7th Ave.; 212-967-6699)
Grand Republic Cocktail Club
Conceived by cocktail king Johnny Swet, who also happens to be forging the cocktail list at the freshly open Oscar Wilde, this watering hole has a hard opening date of September 15, 2017 in trendy Greenpoint. The Grand Republic has its own garden for sunny day stroll-abouts and will feature curious cocktails containing exotic and perhaps even unheard of ingredients like a black rice gin and celery tonic. (19 Greenpoint Ave., Brooklyn)
Mr. Cannon
From the Lure Group, who brought us spots like Food Lab and Clinton Hall, comes Mr. Cannon. This not-so-quiet-speakeasy yet secretly chic concept bar has just recently opened its doors. Right by the water on South Street Seaport, once you find Mr. Cannon, expect earth tones, leather couches, dim lighting and seriously luxurious takes on cocktail classics. (206 Front St.)
