Where to Go for Labor Day Weekend 2017 in New York City
Though summer is coming to a close, at least we have one last long weekend to enjoy. Labor Day is soon upon us, and for most of us, that means an extra long weekend to have fun, relax, and repeat. New York City is a big place with lot’s of things to do, so Drink NYC is here to round up the best places for a get together.
Brooklyn Crab
Right by the water over in Red Hook, Brooklyn Crab is three levels of picnic tables, paper towel rolls, hot sauce, and steamy seafood specials. A perfect place for a day trip with the whole gang to get down on platters of seafood shack goodies, Brooklyn Crab will help you savor the flavor of a long and satisfying summer. While the full bar at Brooklyn Crab gives way to all sorts of tantalizing tipples, it’s never a bad idea to split a pitcher of sangria served either red or white, or perhaps even go in on that rum punch bowl. (24 Reed St., Brooklyn; 718-643-2722)
Every New Yorker worth his or her salt has heard of the legendary penthouse lounge sitting on top of the Standard Hotel. What better way to unwind before getting back into the grind then to take a walk down the Highline and have a couple day drinks with one of the best views of the city? Don’t forget that after 10 PM, it’s party time at the Top of the Standard, with live DJs spinning your night away. (The Standard High Line, 848 Washington St.; 212-645-7600)
Forrest Point
Do what the Bushwickians do and head over to Forrest Point during your long and lavish weekend. Located right on Flushing Avenue in Bushwick, Forrest Point’s spacious outdoor seating arrangements are a sure set up for a good time. Known for their crafty and innovative cocktail creations, Forrest Point also happens to be one of the few spots in Brooklyn serving up milk punch for up to four people. Still feeling summer, but love to flirt with fall? We recommend trying out Fancy Shorts Milk Punch featuring Denizen 3 Year Rum, Wild Turkey, Pedro Ximenez Sherry, grilled pineapple, lime, Ceylon tea, star anise, cinnamon and demerara. (970 Flushing Ave., Brooklyn; 718-366-2742)
Union Hall
Union Hall over in Park Slope is a gentlemen’s club of sorts, featuring no nonsense bar bites, microbrews from all over, and of course, bocce ball. A great place for a getaway, Union Hall’s colloquial meeting house vibe is the ticket for a chillout sesh with the besties. After you’re done destroying your mates at bocce ball, stick around for some live talent, whether it be standup night or live tunes. (702 Union St., Brooklyn; 718-638-4400)
Barcade
There’s a big chance you’ve heard of the legendary bars with locations in Williamsburg, The East Village, and Chelsea who have lined their walls full of arcade games ranging from old school to new. In case you’re a beer lover as well as a gamer, turns out you’re in luck, as Barcade also plays host to some of the most sought after micro and craft brews in all the land and is always throwing launch parties for your favorite breweries upcoming feature. (388 Union Ave., Brooklyn; 718-302-6464)
SPiN New York
Over in Flatiron, SPiN New York is anything but an ordinary bar, and 17 Olympic sized table tennis tables is just one of the elements that makes SPiN and destination with friends. Hit the tables with a choice craft brew in one hand (or go for a bottled cocktail like the Spingria featuring Smoke Tree Rosé, St. Germain, Cointreau, Pear Liqueur, Grapefruit Cordial, and lime) and a paddle in the other, and then refuel over their upscale takes on comfort food classics. (48 E 23rd St.; 212-982-8802)
