Christmas in New York is a special time of year, and since New York likes to go all out, it’s no surprise that the city is brimming with holiday spirit. We’ve gone ahead and rounded up the city’s most intensely festive bars and restaurants.
Sippin’ Santa’s Surf Shack
This tiki bar pop-up within Boilermaker bar in the East Village brings a tropical edge to its already Christmas themed venue. Stop in for a burger and try the On Christmas Island, a merry blend of agricole rums, ginger, and passion fruit. Mele Kalikimaka! (13 1st Ave.; 212-995-5400)
Right in the middle of Midtown next to all the Christmas action is this French brasserie. Known for their bistro bites, lively bar scene, and live opera on Saturday nights, Papillon is the perfect destination to find yourself after you check out the big tree. With massive wreaths, lights strewn throughout the space, and tinsel galore, Papillon is the spot to get you in the holiday spirit. (22 E 54th St.; 212-754-9006)
As stated within the name, this venue’s Victorian-era theme is so polished you’d think you traveled through time and ended up in the 19th century. Fitting with the season and the bar’s old world theme, Lillie’s boasts an unparalleled antique nutcracker collection. For those seeking a quaint and comfortable spot during the season, Lillie’s old world Christmas antique shop vibe is the perfect place to be. (249 W 49th St.; 212-957-4530)
Located in Times Square the Haven Rooftop is a special kind of New York retreat for natives and visitors alike. Nothing can beat that rooftop view, and don't worry, because the roof is encased in glass with fireplaces and all the comforts one could ask for. (132 W 47th St.; 212-466-9000)
Bringing the holiday spirit to the south side of Williamsburg, ‘Silver’ Belle Shoals has transformed its usual decor of a sleepy southern town with all the southern hospitality to a winter wonderland. With an outdoor garden adorned with lights, snow, and Christmas trees, Belle Shoals is a great destination for those Brooklynites who want to celebrate in style. (10 Hope St., Brooklyn; 718-218-6027)
Returning once again to spread the joy to the world, the seasonal favorite pop-up Miracle on Mace is here once again at Mace in Alphabet City. Known for the creative cocktails based in singular spices and herbs, this apothecary has embraced the holiday season with garland, lights, carols, and special drinks including the Christmapolitan features vodka, fig, and cranberry.
