A change in season means an inevitable change in our beverage choices. Nevertheless, fall is a great time to drink. We’ve gone ahead gathered a list of the must-try cocktails for autumn in NYC.
All That Orange
This Hell’s Kitchen spot is the latest addition to the high caliber chain, offering up separate bars for Kappo, whiskey and cocktails. The drink is ‘All That Orange’ and despite the name there is no trace of the citrus fruit in this cocktail. Composed of kabocha squash, aperol, gin, rosemary, lime and nutmeg—it’s refreshing yet earthy and a perfect treat to ring in the season. (365 W 46th St., New York, NY; 212-262-8880)
West India Couperee
At this bar in Williamsburg, the cocktails are whimsical but seriously good. Every drink on the menu in annotated with a history of the cocktail's adaption and inspiration. The drink is the West India Couperee—Cognac, Orange Curaçao, vanilla ice cream, lemon, soda water, carrot, and nutmeg. It's earthy, creamy, textural and definitely delicious. Captain Planet
This East-Village favorite is known for a great brunch as well as a date-night dinner and cocktails. The Captain Planet is a great intersection of the seasons. Comprised of Aviation Gin, Pisco Portion, Calamansi, lemon, olive oil infused egg white and green tea bitters the Captain Planet has refreshing qualities leveled out with some earthy tones. Rosé Shandy
A new restaurant in Prospect Park with a garden vibe brought to you by Alinea alum Greg Baxtrom offers up some classy, affordable plates and cocktails, with a seasonal touch. The drink here is the Rosé Shandy comprised of fino sherry, blanc vermouth, Peychaud’s bitters, and sparking rosé poured over frozen rosé cubes with red currant and thyme. Sons of Adam
Located in the East Village, this bar comes from the mind of cocktail legend Toby Maloney who has teamed up with Joaquín Simó of Death & Company and Troy Sidle of Chicago’s The Violet Hour. The drink, Sons of Adam, features a boisterous combination of Laird’s Apple Brandy, Cocchi Americano, Krogstad Gamble Aquavit, orgeat, and cinnamon delivering a nutty, spicy and seasonal combination of flavors perfect for fall. Sasha’s Tale
Super star Chef Geoffery Zakarian’s restaurant has some super star cocktails to go with that show stopping food. This fall visit and be sure to try Sasha’s Tale, it’s a spirit forward combination of Templeton Rye, rubarbo, Vermouth Averna, with an absinthe rinse.
