Sister Breweries Boulevard and Ommegang Announce Planned Collaboration
The moment Boulevard Brewing Co. and Brewery Ommegang diehards have been waiting for has finally arrived as the sister brands have announced plans for a collaboration beer to be distributed later this month.
Kansas City-based Boulevard (Finally available in Philadelphia) and Cooperstown’s Ommegang are both owned by Duvel Moortgat. Their forthcoming creation is creatively titled Collaboration No. 4. Boulevard Brewmaster Steven Pauwels issued this release:
“Brewery Ommegang excels in using spices to add complexity and character to their Belgian-style beers, while we've become known for our saisons at Boulevard. The mutual admiration each brewery has for the other worked well as we combined our strengths into a complex, yet approachable beer that serves to reintroduce our breweries after Boulevard joined the Duvel Moortgat family.”
The spiced saison is a part of Boulevard’s Smokestack Series of brews that already includes their Double-Wide I.P.A. and other limited edition releases. If you’ve got a little road trip left in ya, the beer will be available in sixtels and 750ml bottles in the Kansas City area next week. Folks in other markets will have to sit on their hands until the nectar extends past Missouri soon thereafter.
Until then ...
After brewing a mix of various malts and hops, sweet orange peel, lemon peel, coriander and grains of paradise, the wort was transferred to two fermentation vessels. Pauwels added Boulevard's signature Belgian yeast strain to one of the vessels and Leinhart added Ommegang's house yeast strain to the other. During filtration, the two batches were blended together for bottling. [KC BizJournal]
