Dog-Friendly Bars Where You and Fido Can Escape the Dog Days of Summer
With the Dog Days of Summer in full swing, your local watering hole can become a much-needed escape from the Jersey Shore’s infamous heat. And that counts for furry friends too. But did you know that there are bars all along the coast that cater to bar-goers and their pets?
These bars and eateries have outdoor porches that also treat your pooch, and give everyone a place to cool down. Whether enjoying a cold beer or a bowl of water, these are the spots to get away from the intense summer heat.
Harpoon Henry’s: Harpoon Henry’s has things for any member of the family to enjoy. Adults can relax with a game of “corn hole” and kids can enjoy their giant sandbox. You can even bring the dog along to sit with you at one of their umbrella tables. The bar serves up 250 frozen cocktails right on the Delaware Bay. (91 Beach Dr., North Cape May; 609-886-5529)
The Rusty Nail: With a separate doggie menu, “The Nail” is one of the most dog-friendly bars at the shore. They even serve up a non-alcoholic “Bowser Beer” to their patrons’ four-legged friends. They love dogs so much, they hold a dog pageant every year to find the perfect pooch to be the bar’s mascot for the next year. (205 Beach Ave., Cape May; 609-884-0017)
Maynard’s Cafe Starlite Garden: Maynard’s bar may be an indoor spot, but the Starlite Garden’s outdoor patio is built for everyone. It gets pretty packed on weekends and nights, but Fido and friends will love a lunch break, with a full menu just for the garden. Might we suggest the corndog? (9306 Amherst Ave., Margate; 609-822-8423)
Tun Tavern Brewery and Restaurant: This brewery offers countless year-round and seasonal beers and is famous for being the perfect place to bring your pup. Set up at one of their outdoor tables and enjoy some drinks. Your pooch might not get to sample the beer, but they will get a bowl of water. (2 Convention Blvd., Atlantic City; 609-347-7800)
Harry’s Ocean Bar & Grill: Harry’s outdoor beer garden includes its own bar, as well as umbrellas for some much-needed shade. Relax and enjoy the beach-side views and live music that your dog can howl along to, along with specialty mojitos, rum runners, margaritas and more. (1025 Beach Ave., Cape May; 609-884-2779)
Bum Rogers Crabhouse: Bum Rogers’ outdoor dining area pairs perfectly with your pooch and a pint, or whatever you’re in the mood for. Neighboring Island Beach State Park, your furry friend can come right out of the surf and relax with a bowl of water, while you dig your claws into some shellfish and specialty cocktails. (2207 Central Ave., Seaside Park; 732-830-2770)
