6 Places to Celebrate New Year's Eve in New York
So you've done the house party. You've done the party with a bottle of sparkling something on the couch. You've done the partying at Times Square—or at least contemplating being surrounded by 1 million people without access to public restrooms, and/or food, and/or joy.
Here are some alternative routes to take for New Year's Eve:
Subway Soul Club
That oldie, but goodie. Drink a little too much, shake it, shake it. Subway Soul Club in Brooklyn is throwing a 60's soul, Motown and go-go grooves party with a free champagne toast thrown in with your tickets ($15 in advance/$20 at the door).
Drom
There will be no shortage of theatrics at Drom's Masquerade Ball New Year's Eve. There are DJs as well as an open champagne bar between 8 and 9, burlesque dancers and per the name—yours and others' costumes to gawk at. ($40 in advance/$50 at the door)
Union Hall
Karaoke Killed the Cat—or just your 2013 blues—at Union Hall. While the quality of vocal prowess is never guaranteed, many, "Oh my god! Did you just see that!" moments are a sure bet. Mix that in with "booty popping dance" and you have a New Years to remember.
Baby's All Right
Party with the cool kids and buzz bands like DIIV, Perfect Pussy, Potty Mouth, Nothing and more at this Williamsburg space. No frills, just jams. ($35 in advance/$40 day of)
Bike Ride to Central Park
Pedal up to Belvedere Castle from the Williamsburg Bridge or Madison Square Park and get rewarded for all your hard work with a dance party at one of New York's loveliest sights. Did we mention that there are fireworks?
St. Bartholomew's
Enjoy a free concert around New York City's biggest pip organ playing Bach, Debussy and Copland. There's a free champagne toast to the event which starts at 11pm and is free to begin with. Happy holidays!
