Aw Shucks: Grand Central Oyster Bar Is Opening a Brooklyn Outpost
Century-old Midtown dining institution, Grand Central Oyster Bar, is just a few days away from opening its new outpost across the Hudson in Park Slope. It replaces shuttered Fornino Pizzeria.
Florence Fabricant reports in the New York Times that the time-honored fish house and bar’s spinoff is a franchise developed by Brooklynite Jonathan Young, former GCOB general manager, and co-owner Bruce Fox. It’s the first such offshoot to go up within the Five Boroughs.
The official opening is expected to come sometime on or after Wednesday, December 11. In addition to serving up more than 16 daily varieties of shucked-to-order oysters and such signature dishes as oyster stew, and lobster pan roast, the new spot will a broad selection of sparkling, white and red wines, as well as cocktails and beer. As an added bonus, the Brooklyn version also comes with a seafood market that will have a counter where folks can get instant gratification for oyster cravings.
