New York's Five Must-Have Apple Cocktails
Whether as the garnishing touch or the use of Applejack, bars around New York are getting into the autumnal spirit with apples.
Corkbuzz Wine Studio's Tri-State ($14)
This classy wine bar with far above average food offerings also has a fair selection of cocktails and beers on the menu. And just in time for fall, the Studio is featuring three big flavors: applejack, Averell damson gin liqueur, and house-made bitters. (13 E 13th St, New York, 646-873-6071)
Piora's Leaves Falling ($15)
The food at this Italian and Korean spot is not cheap, so neither are the drinks. But after throwing down the $15, enjoy head bartender Shinya Yamao's with Calvados and Plymouth gin to be the metaphorical fireplace, and maple syrup, tea, lemon and a slice of apple for the blanket. (430 Hudson Street, New York, 212-960-3801)
Hearth's Frederick Katz ($12)
All kinds of heat goes into this cocktail that combines Old New Orleans Cajun Spiced Rum with ginger-infused apple cider. (403 E. 12th Street, New York, 646-602-1300)
Colonie's Empire State Sour ($12)
Baked Apple Bitters, sounds just right for the recent nip in the weather. Toss those into some whiskey, Canton Ginger Liqueur, fresh green apple juice, lemon, and cinnamon—then wrap it all up with some egg white—and you have yourself a glass packed with the best stuff of the season, or any season: tasty booze, duh. (127 Atlantic Avenue Brooklyn, 718-855-7500)
Upper Elm's Autumn Punch ($10)
King & Grove Williamsburg's hotel bar is a bit more than just a hotel bar. Regular live music from Wednesday and Sunday, and cocktails by Jimmy Swet of Jimmy and Cole's fame. One of those drinks is the Autumn Punch with apple juice, cinnamon, pineapple and bourbon. (160 N 12th St, Brooklyn, 718-218-7500)
