7 Best NYC Local Beers for Fall
Fall is upon us, and for many, it could also be known simply as the best season for beer. Here are seven local brews that make our favorites list in all their autumnal glory. Did we miss one of your top seasonal picks? Shout it out on Facebook or Twitter, and we'll let everyone know.
Brooklyn Post Road Pumpkin Ale: Hundreds of pounds of pumpkins are blended into the mash of each batch of this undeniably tasty genuine pumpkin ale from Brooklyn Brewery, creating a beer with an orange amber color, warm pumpkin aroma, biscuity malt center, and crisp finish. Look for it on shelves from August through November (5.0% ABV).
Rushing Duck War Elephant: The fall seasonal from this Chester brewery is an unapologetic double IPA. At over four pounds of hops per barrel, the beer is designed to create a larger-than-life "hops-perience." Unlike many other dIPAs, it has a subdued malt character, so it’s not too sweet but not overly bitter — enjoyable to the last sip (8.7% ABV).
Southern Tier Warlock: This September, the Lakewood brewery released a dark and mysterious full-bodied imperial stout. Pour the velvety brew into a goblet to fully understand it's huge roasted malt character and spicy pie aroma, and get it while you can — this is a limited edition brew (8.6% ABV).
Sixpoint AutumnNation: The main hops featured in the autumn brewer from the Brooklyn brewery is chosen by fans each year, and this year's pick Mosaic, a relatively new strain of hops with huge potential. Copper in color, the ale carries a well-balanced malt backbone, accompanied by citrus, berry-like and pine flavors. The massive aroma of fresh hops features citrus, strawberry, stonefruit, berry and piney notes (6.7% ABV).
Bronx Brewery Rye Pale Ale: A fall specialty from the upper borough brewery, this pale ale brewed with rye contains a unique and intense spicy rye flavor and golden-orange hue. Chinook and Crystal hops lend a gentle bitterness and spicy, herbal aroma to this rich, bold beer (6.3% ABV).
KelSo Kellerfest: Smooth and easy to drink, the seasonal brew from this Brooklyn brewhouse brings a deep caramel and toasted malt backbone, with a light, easy finish (6.0% ABV).
Blue Point Pumpkin Ale : This beer from the Long Island brewery is golden orange, crisp and delicious, with an innocent hint of cinnamon and nutmeg — it pairs perfectly with the fall season. Get a pint while you can, it disappears by Thanksgiving (6.0% ABV).
