Fall Preview: 7 New and Upcoming Bars in NYC
Fall in New York means denim jackets, pumpkin beers and plenty of new bars. Here's your preview of seven new and upcoming spots to get a drink in NYC this autumn.
Barley & Grain: This newly-opened American restaurant and whiskey bar on the Upper West Side features an extensive list of 100 whiskies from the U.S., Scotland and Ireland, along with 12 rotating American craft beers on tap and many brown-spirit bases cocktails, all perfect for warming up as the air outside gets crisper (421 Amsterdam Ave.; 646-360-3231).
The Mixing Room: The recent $46 million hotel remodel of the Lexington New York City in Midtown East includes a new cocktail lounge which — inspired by the venue's 1920s Jazz Age roots — pays homage to the likes of Arthur Godfrey, Dorothy Lamour, Marilyn Monroe and Joe DiMaggio — all former hotel guests (511 Lexington Ave.; 212-755-4400).
Atlas Social Club (A.S.C.): A new Hell's Kitchen gay bar across from Boxers will be opening its doors in September, and aims to bring a downtown feel uptown. The interior designer calls the bar's style "a cross between a gay speakeasy and a retro athletic club," and it will feature up-and-coming New York DJs, as well as guests sets from international spinmasters (753 9th Ave.; 212-262-8527).
Grace Gaelic Hospitality: This recently opened bar in Kips Bay pairs the neighborhood-feel you typically get from a classic Irish pub with the feminine charm of a cocktail bar. Throw in a sophisticated drinks menu — as well as some of the best bartenders in the city — and you get a fusion that is undoubtedly welcome in this part of town (365 Third Ave.; 646-918-6553).
The Winslow: Recently opened in a newly renovated space in the East Village, this tavern boasts a warm and inviting aura and captures the essence of a classic British public house and eatery. The bar is stocked with 20 different types of Old World, New World and British beer on tap and a batch of unique cocktails (243 East 14th St.; 212-777-7717).
Vitis La Vineria: This small, upscale wine bar is said to be opening this month in Gramercy, and will emphasize Italian, French and Spanish wines (284 Third Ave.).
Henry, a Liquor Bar: A new seasonal cocktail bar & lounge in the Hudson Hotel launched last Friday with an inventive and experimental mixology program. The bar remains true to the hotel’s youthful feel with a high-energy atmosphere featuring both live jazz performances & regular appearances by resident DJs (356 W. 58th St.; 212-554-6217).
