Fall Preview: 6 New Bars and Events in Brooklyn to Visit Now
Whether it's Fashion Week, back-to-school ads or just the changing of the seasons that entices you to try something new, look no further. Check out six must-try new events and drinkeries in Brooklyn this month.
Taste Talks: This weekend, brace yourself for the largest food and drink event to hit Brooklyn since Smorgasburg was inaugurated. Curated by April Bloomfield of Spotted Pig, the two-days of talks and workshops purports to "showcase the culinary cutting edge for a food-obsessed generation" with speakers like Wylie Dufresne and Mario Batali. (September 14 − 15, various locations in Williamsburg).
The Bounty: While The Drink excelled at, well, drinks — including a consistently inventive and delicious punchbowl sure to give you a buzz — the owners are now turning their attention to a larger set of offerings. Cocktails, oysters and burgers are just the tip of the iceberg for this spot capitalizing on the ever-popular nautical vibe favored in North Brooklyn (131 Greenpoint Ave, Brooklyn; 347-689-3325).
Atrium: You'll find more oysters and a seafood-heavy menu in general at this spot opened by a group of DB Bistro Moderne alums. But we'll be drawn in by the drinks: more than 100 wines and cocktails created by Payman Bahmani who worked at that kinda famous cocktail place PDT (15 Main St, Brooklyn; 718-858-1095)
Tørst: This beer-lovers Mecca just got better. While the beer list is still as good as ever, if you were hungry — or, more realistically with the waitlist, anticipate being hungry within the next month — you'll now find a 26-seat Nordic-centric restaurant in the back of the bar (615 Manhattan Ave, Brooklyn, 718-389-6034).
Home/Made: The Red Hook wine bar just a hop from Brooklyn Cruise Terminal was hit hard by Hurricane Sandy but is finally open again. Grab a glass and toast to it's recovery! (293 Van Brunt St, Brooklyn; 347-223-4135)
The Grand Bar and Grill: While plenty of bars are pushing out high-brow plays on traditional bar foods like nachos and wings, few have the pedigree of The Grand where the chef was formerly at Dressler and Miller's Tavern. The drinks menu has all your favorites (and perhaps a few new ones) on draft and a cocktail list that focuses on the classics (think Negroni, Sazerac, Sidecar and Aperol Spritz) (647 Grand St., Brooklyn; 718-782-4726).
